Barge Operation

In respect of this service, we have dedicated barges owned and leased ones for mid stream operations of cargo handling of products.

Own fleet of self propelled inland barges : M.V. SOHOM 11(DWT 2850 MT ), M.V.SOHOM111(DWT 2700MT). M.V.JOY BASUDEV (1650 MT) Mississippi 1 (3000) & Mississippi 2 (2500).

Further, two nos. R.S.V. 11 5500 MT self propelled barges ordered expected delivery in 2017.

Such operations facilitate entry of higher capacity vessels which are loaded , unloaded at downstream anchorage points at Diamond Harbour and Sagar islands of the Hooghly river. This enables the vessels, including bigger ones, to make faster turnaround thus avoiding berthing in Kolkata docks where there is perpetual draft problem and congestion. This has helped in increasing river traffic throughput with a higher volume of cargo movement consequently generating revenue for KOLKATA PORT TRUST.
